How Does My Garden Grow

I live in a house that is built on a slab of clay. so I built me a little box, and filled it with dirt, and hoped for the best. The first year it was so over run with weeds, that I was thrilled that anything came up at all. Last year I didn't do much of anything in my garden, and it completely over ran with weeds. I pulled some out occasionally.. but it was a tough year, and things just didn't get done like they should. The peonie plants I planted the year before came up but still didn't bloom Although my pinks did, as did my johnny jump ups.

This year I was a little more determined to get something good to grow. I bought a couple of rose bushes, and decided to replant the one I had. I weeded hard for two days, and pulled up all kinds of stuff. I had ground covering clover, wild strawberry plants deep growth grass, and various other hard to pull up plants. It was HARD work. Kinda hard to pull up plants that put down roots every two inches. I finally got it all up, and put down that plastic stuff to keep it from coming back. Planted my five rose bushes, and left spaces for my rhubarb, my pinks, and my peonies. I also have some sweet williams, but I couldn't get all the weeds out from around them, and they were taken over. I am going to have to cover up that last corner, and soon. But not till the heat breaks, or the pool is up.

Anyway, this year my peonies finally bloomed, and my roses did wonderfully so far. I was quite excited when I saw my peonies. I LOVE peonies. Then my yellow roses bloomed. Quite profusely too. Last time I looked, I had several buds on different plants

I also wanted some blooms in the front of the house, but since it faces north, it doesn't get much sun. So I made a planter around my mail box. Some of the plants did well. others did not. Forthunatly it is still kind of full, and is filling up nicely.

Well since I am so excited, I thought I would share.
